TSO-D Day 6: Race Day Final Rewards

Tinkerers successfully ran the Tour de Tinkering in eight minutes, 7.19 seconds in a six-part relay Friday. The senior ramp team unleashed their teammates’ tricycle, ridden by Ash, through the lower shop build site, shooting her toward the second part of the relay while Paul Engemann’s, “Push It To the Limit” was played to kick off the race.

Stationed at the base of the subsequent incline, Wilson, the second driver in the relay, relied on several Tinkerers and collaborators to hoist him up an inclined path to the upper shop build site by means of a pulley system. From there, Evan, the driver for the third team awaited the tag to begin his descent back to the lower shop build site entryway drive.

All went well until the fourth driver, Henry, was stopped short by a broken axle leaving him stationary. Undeterred by the broken kart, all Tinkerers and collaborators excitedly ran down the winding road to the next relay hand-off mark.

Fashioned more like a cruiser that required three riders, two on brakes and one on steering, the fifth team, Nave, Aahan, and Talia, proceeded down the remaining road almost completing their part before suffering a crash at the lower part of the road.

Still able to receive the safety bike helmet hand-off, the sixth and final team was able to proceed through the final stretch of the race, leaving fellow Tinkerers and collaborators behind. As they finished the last leg, quickly gaining speed on the downward sloping paved road, riders Jasper and Chuck endured the second crash of the event.

Despite a few delays and equipment failures, the Tinkerers and collaborators finished the last few yards by foot, completing their Tour de Tinkering successfully.
