Session A: Day 5 - Crunch Time

(written by Ana with supervision from Sayuri. The blog is a two-handed tool. You need supervision from someone over eighteen to write it.) Thursday is the second to last build day and requires commitment and constant vigilance. It is an emotionally taxing day for collaborator and tinkerer alike.

Last night was movie night! We all made ice cream sandwiches and curled up to watch The Princess Bride

The Princess Bride: Grandson: Hold it, hold it! What is this? Are you tryin' to trick me? Where's the sports? < gravely > Is this a kissing book? Grandfather: Wait, just wait. Grandson: Well when does it get good?

Nooi finished and improved their wheel system today. The alpaca can not only seat two collaborators, it can transport two collaborators.

Tighter. Tighter. Tighter. Good.

Testing time! After realizing that the back two legs went inwards as the Alpaca took a walk, Nooi added a support bar reinforcing the two legs.

Piki's giraffe moved habitats, grew a head, got some spots, and received a drink.

One way to help make sure we stay on track is honestly reporting back to the group how our team is doing. A post-lunch powwow is the perfect way to do this.

Panda's peacock is getting closer to taking off. Both the zipline and animal are nearing finished.

How do we attach something to a tree if we can't use screws? Lashing!

After running down the hill to the conference center for fabric, Panda team members learned how to use a staple gun to dress the peacock.

Kablooi's dragon boat went through many iterations today. With wings, without wings, with hinged wings.

On our way down the hill, we stopped for twenty minutes at the garden/playground. Tire swings, hay bales, giant tube thing, and mini wheel barrow. What's not to love?

Filling our tummies tonight was crisped mac & cheese. Yum!

After dinner, a group of campers headed up the hill for an hour of free build. Skateboards? Scooters? Chairs? Tables?

Tomorrow, is our closing build day before parents arrive on Saturday. Will the peacock take flight? Will the giraffe be stable? Will the alpaca take collaborators alpaca-back-riding? Will the dragon's wings flap? We don't know, and that's okay.
