County Fair - Day 4 - Week 3 (Mark Day School)
With a highly motivated group of tinkerers, we embarked on mission impossible today. The impossible mission we had in front of us was two GIANT projects! One, a 12’ tall, 8’ wide pinball-style game. The other a daunting roller coaster with a very authentic wheel and track arrangement that, if built, promised a smooth and fast ride. Hundreds of pieces needed to be cut. big problems needed to be solved.
By lunchtime it became clear that our team had really come together, and the builds were progressing in a BIG way! By the end of the day everyone was tired, but there were a lot of happy expressions on faces as we reflected on our accomplishments.
Tomorrow is a big day in a different way. We’ll be working hard until lunchtime to finish what we can, then we’ll have a little time after lunch to put final touches on things before our 2pm showcase! Vaccinated adult family members are invited to join us at 2pm sharp to hear a presentation by the students, then enjoy the creations with them! At 2:30 we’ll take it all apart.
In preparation for this final part of the week, we’ll be reflecting on what we’ve learned and what we can take away from these temporary structures we created. The process of deconstruction is a bitter-sweet, but often powerful experience, and at the very least, it is a great moment for your tinkerer to show you how accomplished they’ve become with drills!
