Mixed Up Animals - Day 4 - Week 2 (Mark Day School)
Our last full day of building went by in a flurry of sawdust as nearly every tinkerer had their turn on the jigsaw, or spent some time cutting a complex shape on the bandsaw.
With the parts they made, our creations are starting to take shape and look a bit more like the designs we envisioned. The Porcuplane (porcupine eagle) got a door and a skin with windows. It also got a beak! Our Dongaroo (dolphin-kangaroo), got a dolphin shape finally!
Tomorrow is our big unveil! Vaccinated family members are invited to join us at 2pm in the breezeway. It is a special, traditional part of the camp experience and we are glad to be able to offer some version of it! Students will introduce their project to the assembled family members, then we’ll all have about 20 minutes to enjoy the creations together before we cement the project and the week we spent on it in our memories by taking it apart, piece by piece! During this time campers get to show off their drill skills and the admiring adults who are willing can help by being an extra set of hands to hold things steady, or carry wood back to the awaiting storage bins. It is a fun, if bitter sweet experience, and we’ll be all wrapped up by 3pm.
If you are unable to attend, don’t worry. Pick up time remains 3pm and we’ll have plenty of pictures up on the blog by Saturday morning.
