Trash eating monsters from space - Day 1 - 3 - Week 1 (SF Day Camp)
CHOMP CHOMP…RAAAAAWWRRRR!!!
Our 2019 Tinkering School Summer Day Camp has begun! And we have a super exciting project theme to launch us into the summer :-)
In case you didn’t hear through the grapevine, Tinkering School (along with our partner organization Brightworks) has recently moved out of our beloved workshop and magical warehouse school building at 1960 Bryant St a few months ago. We’re grateful to have a temporary and super cool new spot to call home for the summer - San Francisco’s very own Palace of Fine Arts!
Our new space is so close to the bay that we can walk to the beach during lunch, so its no surprise that our new location has inspired some creative building ideas and challenges. This week, our theme has quite the backstory…
In a galaxy perhaps close, close, nearby?… in the very recent past… a large population of trash and pollution eating monsters lived peacefully on a very clean planet. It was so clean though that some of them got sorta bored, so they decided to teleport to Earth to help us clean up our own pollution and trash in the Bay. Yay! Unfortunately during their teleportation travels, they missed the bay though and landed in the Palace of Fine Arts!
Our amazing group of enthusiastic tinkerers this week have taken upon themselves the great challenge to not only build these trash eating monsters, but also vehicles to transport them back to the bay, and a feeding machine to make sure they don’t starve while they’re staying with us in the Palace.
Our first day was filled with tool training, project design, and even some building as well. And in the couple days since, this crew has been working hard and having a blast collaborating together as they bring their amazing creations to life.
Stay tuned for much more (and tons of photos) in the next days. Have you ever seen a giant trash monster feeding frenzy??? We haven’t either, but we can’t wait to see one!
